J’en rêvais, je ne pensais pas que cela se ferait aussi simplement. J’ai connu Sarah grâce à Instagram. J’avais posté une photo prise quelque part à Lyon, elle avait « liké » m’expliquant que la photo lui rappelait le plaisir d’y vivre. Nous sommes restées en contact.
Cette semaine, sur une nouvelle photo, elle m’a proposé d’écrire pour l’Atelier. Mais qui est Sarah au juste?
Sarah est une jeune maman (36 ans) à la tête d’une petite tribu de 4 filles de 4 mois à 15 ans! Elle vit avec son mari dans le Sud Ouest de l’Angleterre.
Elle a fait de sa passion, l’écriture, un métier notamment avec des piges pour des magazines en ligne que soit sur la littérature scandinave – sa famille est danoise – l’art de vivre ou la culture.
Elle vient aussi de finir son premier roman » A presence of Absence », un polar qui se situe entre Londres et Odense au Danemark. Je lui souhaite d’être bientôt publiée : j’ai très envie de lire son livre!
Elle écrit également pour son blog, The Wormcatcher.
Sarah aime Lyon où elle a vécu, voyager et photographier ses filles. Elle adore la mode pour enfant, le design scandinave, les films des pays du Nord, Bruges, Utrecht et demeure foncièrement une citadine!

I dreamed of it, I never would have thought that it would happen so simply. I met Sarah through Instagram. I once posted a picture taken somewhere in Lyon, she « liked » it explaining that the picture reminded her how much she enjoyed living there. We stayed in touch. This week, a new photo, she asked me to write for the Atelier.

But who is Sarah really?
Sarah is a young mother (36 years) at the head of a small tribe of 4 girls from 4 months to 15 years! She lives with her husband in the South West of England. She has turned her passion, writing, including a trade with freelancing for online magazines about Scandinavian literature – her family is Danish – lifestyle or culture. She also just finished his first novel « A presence of Absence, » a crime thriller set between London and Odense in Denmark.
I would love it to be published soon: I really want to read his book!
She also writes for her blog, The Wormcatcher.
Sarah loves Lyon where she lived and enjoys all travel and taking photos of her girls. She is really interested in kids fashion, Scandinavian design, Nordic films, Bruges, Utrecht and remains a city girl at heart!

Où as-tu grandi? Est-ce ta ville natale?

Je suis née dans le ville de York, au nord de l’Angleterre mais j’ai grandi dans la banlieue londonienne d’où viennent mes parents. Plus tard, nous avons déménagé dans le Sud Ouest, près de la ville de Bath. C’est là que je suis restée en dehors d’un (trop) bref passage près de Lyon où j’ai enseigné l’anglais aux écoliers.

Que fais-tu dans la vie,

Je suis auteur freelance. J’écris pour des magazines en ligne et je viens juste de terminer l’écriture en duo d’un polar avec Emma Vestrheim qui est l’éditrice du magazine Cinema Scandinavia. Nous sommes à présent sur le point d’être publiées! Je suis aussi la maman de 4 filles ce que fait que je suis super occupée autant à la maison qu’en dehors.

Quel métier rêvais-tu de faire quand tu étais petite?

J’ai toujours voulu être écrivain!

Peux-tu te décrire en 3 mots?

Déterminée, impatiente et attentionnée.

A quoi ressemble ta journée type?

Je me lève vers 5h30 le matin quand le réveil de mon mari s’éteint (il part très tôt!). Je descend dans la cuisine pour préparer le café et les repas de chacun.
Ensuite, je réveille les filles et notre chien et jusqu’à ce qu’elles partent à l’école, je ne m’occupe que d’elles.
Je rentre ensuite avec notre fille de 4 mois, Agatha, et je m’occupe d’elle jusqu’à ce qu’elle se rendorme. Je peux ensuite me poser pour travailler sur mes projets ce qui implique généralement des travaux d’écriture.

Puis je m’occupe à nouveau d’Agatha quand elle se réveille, je m’occupe de la maison et il est temps d’aller chercher les filles à l’école. Nous dinons lorsque mon mari rentre à la maison puis je me pose pour écrire pendant une petite heure pendant qu’il s’occupe des filles. Je prends le relais pour le coucher et pose à nouveau pour écrire un peu avant d’aller me coucher et recommencer le lendemain matin.

Quel est l’accessoire mode le plus important de ton dressing?

Définitivement une écharpe. Quelque chose que j’ai appris en habitant en France!

Ton travail influence-t-il votre look? Si oui, de quelle manière?

Je travaille chez moi donc j’ai plutôt un look casual à moins d’avoir un rendez-vous avec quelqu’un!

Quelle est la pièce de votre dressing dont vous ne vous séparerez jamais?

Mes chapeaux de laine en hiver : j’en porte un tous les jours!
Mes écharpes qui accessoirisent parfaitement mes tenues et je ne me débarrasserais jamais d’un manteau vert à large col. Il est parfait pour la course à l’école dans l’hiver anglais!

Vis-tu dans un appartement ou dans une maison?

Nous vivons dans une jolie maison à la campagne mais je reste foncièrement une fille de la ville qui a grandi à Londres.

Quel est votre style en déco? A quoi ressemble votre appart’ (ou maison)?

D’extérieur, notre maison ressemble à un cottage, les façades sont blanches avec de grands buissons de lavandes à l’extérieur et nous avons un immense jardin avec un petit étang, des arbres et une serre. L’intérieur de la maison est plutôt contemporain avec du parquet et des murs blancs.

Quelle est le meuble (ou accessoire déco) dont vous êtes le plus fiers et dont vous ne vous séparerez jamais?

Tout ce qui vient du Danemark : j’ai une grande famille là bas et j’adore y faire du shopping. Je trouve le design scandinave hyper pratique avec des lignes minimalistes et épurées.

Quels sont vos projets pour 2016?

Faire publier mon livre!
Développer mon blog Thewormcatcher.com qui raconte la vie d’une famille de 6 personnes et je travaille aussi sur le projet d’un site « utile » pour les parents avec une femme d’affaire. Et je suis ravie d’avoir l’opportunité de contribuer au Petit Atelier de Louise : j’ai instantanément été séduite par ce site lorsque je l’ai découvert et il m’a semblé logique d’y participer!

Quel est le meilleur conseil que l’on t’ait donné? ET le pire?

Le meilleur c’est de toujours fare ce qui me plait! La vie est trop courte et si on fonce, bien sûr que l’on peut se tromper, mais et si jamais cela décolle?
Je n’en vois pas de pire : j’ai tendance à refuser toute négativité!

Quel sera ton prochain achat plaisir juste pour toi?

Pfiou! c’est difficile, j’ai tendance à ne dépenser que pour mes filles, mais je me laisserai bien tenter par une bougie Yankee Candle au parfum d’automne…

A quoi ressemble votre dimanche matin idéal?

Si je pouvais choisir, je retournerai à Lyon. Me lever tôt et sortir prendre un café et une fraîche part de tarte à la praline Chatelaine – une spécialité lyonnaise. Ensuite, nous emmènerions les filles et le chien pour une balade au Parc de la Tête d’Or pour ensuite rentrer se reposer un peu et peut être lire des livres ou écouter de la musique.
Je ne suis pas très douée pour trainer au lit : les matins sont mon moment préférés et je n’aime les gâcher en restant au lit… Cela a sans doute à voir avec le fait d’avoir 4 filles… Les grasses matinées sont un lointain souvenir!

Where were you born? Did you grow up there?

I was born in the city of York which is in the North of England.
But, I grew up on the out skirts of London, where my parents are from. When I was older we moved over to the South West of England, near the City of Bath. This is where I have lived ever since apart from living in France, near Lyon, where I taught English to school children.

What is your job?

I am a freelance writer, writing for online magazines and also an author having co-written my first crime fiction novel with Emma Vestrheim who is the editor of the magazine Cinema Scandinavia. I am now on the path of publishing! I am also a mum to four daughters, so am very busy at home and work.

Which job did you wanted to do when you were a little girl?

Always a writer!

Can you describe yourself in 3 words?

Determined, impatient, thoughtful.

What does a typical day look like for you?

I get up around 5.30am when my husband’s alarm for work goes off. I go downstairs to put on the coffee and make lunches for everyone. I then get up the four girls and our dog and from then until they are dropped at school, I am busy sorting them all out.

I come home with our 4 months old baby, Agatha, and look after her, getting her off to sleep. I then sit down and work on all my project which basically involves a lot of writing!

Agatha wakes up, I look after her, do my housework and then get ready to collect the girls from school. Dinner when my husband gets home, then I sit down and write again for an hour whilst he has the girls. I take over the bedtime routine and then sit down for a little bit before going to bed and starting all over again in the morning.

What is, for you, the most important fashion accessories of your dressing?

Definitely a scarf! I learnt this when I lived in France.

Does your job influence your style ? If so, can you tell us how ?

I work from home so can get away with dressing casually unless I have a meeting with someone.

What is your favorite item of clothing and what would you never get rid of ?

My wool hats in the winter, I live in them every day. My scarves that make my outfits look much better and I would never get rid of my green coat with a large hood. It works so well on the school run in the British winter time.

Do you live in a house or an apartment?

We live in a house in the countryside, but I’m definitely more of a city person having grown up in London.

What is the style of your home inside and out?

Our house looks quite like a cottage from the outside, it’s white with lots of lavender growing outside and we have a huge garden with a pond, trees and a greenhouse. The inside is quite modern contemporary with hard flooring and white walls.

What is the furniture that you are the proudest of?

Anything I have from Denmark. I have a lot of Danish family and like to buy from there. I find Scandinavian furniture in general so practical but minimal and clean cut.

What are your projects for 2016-17?

Get my book published. Build up my blog Thewormcatcher.com which blogs about being a family of 6 and I am working on a business project with another business woman which is a useful website for parents. I am of course so happy to be writing for Le Petit Atelier de Louise, when I first came across the site I instantly fell in love with it and it just feels so right to be contributing here.

What is the best advice that you have received? and the worst?

Definitely the best is to go for things you want to. Life is too short and if you go for it yes you may fall, but what if you fly? The worst I can’t think of any because I tend to block out any negativity!

What will be your next purchase just for you?

Ah, that’s so hard! I am always buying for my girls but for me it will probably be a new autumn Yankee candle.

How does your ideal Sunday morning look?

If I could choose I would spend it back in Lyon. Get up early and go out for coffee and an early treat of Lyonnaise praline tart, Chatelaine. We would then take the girls and dog for a walk around the Parc de la Tête d’Or and then head home for some chill out time to maybe read our books and listen to music. I’m afraid I’m not good at lying in, mornings are my best time and I don’t like to waste it lying in bed. It’s probably something to do with having 4 daughters, lie-ins went a long time ago.
